About Ryan Hernandez:

Hello and welcome to my page. I’m excited to be with Deer Park ISD and Deepwater Jr. High this year. I look forward to a great year.

A little about me:

A native Texan and Houstonian! I would consider myself an accomplished educator and coach with over 15 years of experience teaching United States History and Texas History, complemented by 11 years of coaching student-athletes. With a passion for fostering critical thinking and a deep appreciation for historical inquiry, I have dedicated my career to inspiring students to connect with the past and understand its relevance to the present.

As a history teacher, I have taught at Pasadena ISD, now at Deer Park, where I have developed and delivered engaging curricula that bring U.S. and Texas history to life. My teaching philosophy emphasizes interactive learning, primary source analysis, and encouraging students to explore diverse perspectives. By creating a dynamic classroom environment, I have consistently helped students achieve academic excellence, with many earning accolades in history fairs, essay competitions, and advanced placement exams. In fact, past students I have taught are new in the teaching profession!

In addition to my classroom expertise, I have 11 years of experience as a coach within PISD, now with DPISD, and 10+ years in the private sector coaching various sports. I led football, soccer and other teams to success at PISD. I have worked to build teamwork and resilience within my players through discipline and hard work. My coaching approach blends strategic insight with mentorship, fostering both athletic and personal growth.

I hold a Bachelor’s in Communication and Journalism from the University of Houston and Master’s in Digital Media from University of Houston—Clear Lake. I am certified any subject from 4-8th grade, Social Studies from 4-12th grade, as well as Health at any grade level. 

Beyond the classroom and field, I am committed to community engagement, organizing historical reenactments, volunteering with local history societies, and mentoring new educators. My dedication to education and coaching has left a lasting impact on students, athletes, and colleagues alike, making all of the hard work worthwhile. 

I look forward to working with the students of Deer Park ISD and Deepwater Jr. High in the 2026 school year.
